Adds GPU utilization, DSP activity and separate power-rail readings to SystemLogger. Unavailable readings use -1.

Testing: Validated on one OAK4 running OS 1.47.0, with real GPU and neural-network workloads. Readings closely matched the underlying vendor counters and power sensors. Existing CPU, memory and temperature reporting still worked. Serialization and Python binding tests passed.

Requires firmware https://gitlab.luxonis.com/luxonis/depthai/depthai-device-kb/-/merge_requests/448

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • RVC4 system information now includes GPU utilization, DSP HVX/HMX activity and Q6 load, plus system, processor, PoE, and ToF power readings. Unavailable readings are identified as unavailable.
    • C++ and Python system logger examples display these metrics with units and consistent formatting.
  • Tests
    • Added coverage for the new readings and serialization behavior.

Explain Change →

Walkthrough

The RVC4 system-information message now includes GPU utilization, DSP activity and load, and four power readings. Serialization, Python bindings, system logger output, and tests cover the added fields.

Changes: RVC4 System Information

Layer / File(s) Summary
Message fields and serialization
include/depthai/pipeline/datatype/SystemInformationRVC4.hpp, tests/src/onhost_tests/pipeline/datatype/systeminformationrvc4_test.cpp, tests/CMakeLists.txt
The message adds eight accelerator and power fields, defaulting to -1, and serializes them. processMemoryUsage now defaults to 0. On-host tests cover defaults, round trips, and failures when reading between the legacy and extended schemas.
Python properties and round-trip coverage
bindings/python/src/pipeline/datatype/SystemInformationBindings.cpp, bindings/python/tests/compiler_warning_bindings_roundtrip_test.py
Python bindings expose the eight fields as read/write properties. The round-trip test assigns and checks each value.
Metric output and device checks
examples/cpp/Misc/SystemLogger/system_logger.cpp, examples/python/Misc/SystemLogger/system_logger.py, tests/src/ondevice_tests/pipeline/node/system_logger_test.cpp, cmake/Depthai/DepthaiDeviceRVC4Config.cmake
Both system loggers display the new metrics to two decimal places and show negative values as unavailable. On-device tests check metric availability and bounds. The RVC4 version value changes.

Merge Risk: Minimal · up to f58a0

The change adds GPU, DSP, and power readings to the RVC4 system information, with Python bindings and logger output. No actionable merge-blocking risk was found in the supplied context. The new fields change the wire format, so host and device firmware must be updated together.

Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.

Eight fields were appended to the DEPTHAI_SERIALIZE list of SystemInformationRVC4. The new tests assert that old and new payloads are mutually undecodable under libnop. A host and device running different versions will therefore fail to decode each other's SystemInformationRVC4 messages.

Deserialization fails or throws, so SystemLogger output is lost or the receiving code errors. Old-firmware devices would stop delivering system information to new hosts.

This can occur when: A host SDK built with this header talks to a device running firmware that predates this change, or an older host talks to the updated firmware. The firmware version in DepthaiDeviceRVC4Config.cmake is pinned, but mixed-version setups remain possible in the field.

Keep the legacy SystemLogger wire format compatible

When a standalone application connects to an older RVC4 runtime that emits the six-field format, the new host decoder rejects its SystemLogger messages. The local connection does not use the gate’s firmware-version selection. Preserve the legacy format or negotiate a versioned format that both sides can decode.

@coderabbitai Regarding the legacy SystemLogger format finding: we do not expect a six-field decoding fallback to be needed for this change. DepthAI selects the firmware version paired with the SDK, and this PR is delivered together with the matching firmware change. An older device OS does not mean the application uses an older SystemLogger firmware format.

We have therefore left the fallback out. The normal gate-managed path explicitly requests the SDK's pinned firmware version. For the standalone case raised here, please identify a supported startup path that actually pairs this new SDK with an older six-field runtime. The direct already-booted connection branch alone does not establish how that runtime was selected; we have not yet verified that all standalone launch paths enforce the pairing.

How do Luxonis OAK Apps standalone RVC4 applications select or start the DepthAI device runtime firmware version? Is the runtime version paired with the depthai Python or C++ SDK version used by the app, and what selects it when connecting to the local shared-memory device? Look for official documentation.

Length of output: 30534

@CasualMathEnjoyer You are right: the already-booted connection branch does not establish how the runtime was selected. My original finding stated the standalone mismatch too strongly.

I checked these paths:

  • Gate-managed startup: src/device/DeviceGate.cpp, Line 81 selects DEPTHAI_DEVICE_RVC4_VERSION. Line 235 sends that version as fwp_version when creating the session.
  • Local connection: README.md, Line 103 documents DeviceInfo.local(). src/device/DeviceBase.cpp, Line 1253 connects to an already-booted runtime. This establishes a supported connection path, not a supported way to launch an incompatible runtime.
  • Wire compatibility: tests/src/onhost_tests/pipeline/datatype/systeminformationrvc4_test.cpp, Line 56 asserts that the extended decoder rejects the legacy payload. That test does not establish that a supported deployment can produce this pairing.

I could not identify a supported startup path that pairs this SDK with the older six-field runtime. I therefore have no verified basis to insist on a decoding fallback.

Standalone launch verification remains inconclusive. Please share the launcher or deployment configuration that selects the local runtime so I can retry that check. The concrete check is whether it selects the SDK-paired firmware or rejects an incompatible runtime before the application connects. This missing evidence is not itself a confirmed defect.
