Description

test_macos has been red on main since firebase_crashlytics 6.0.0 came out, and so on every PR. The same two tests in configure_test.dart fail:

  • "Validate flutterfire upload-crashlytics-symbols script is ran when building app"
  • "Validate dev dependency works as normal & flutterfire upload-crashlytics-symbols works via dev dependency"

It is not a CLI bug. Both tests build an iOS app with firebase_crashlytics, which depends on firebase-ios-sdk 13.0.0. Its Package.swift declares swift-tools-version:6.2.1, but the job pins Xcode 16.4 (Swift 6.1), so Swift Package Manager cannot resolve it (failing run on main):

'firebase-ios-sdk' >= 13.0.0 contains incompatible tools version (6.2.1) and 'firebase_crashlytics-6.0.0' depends on 'firebase-ios-sdk' 13.0.0.

The job now selects Xcode 26.3, the newest Xcode on the macos-15 runner image (26.1 is the minimum).

Testing

test.yaml runs on pull_request_target, so this PR's own checks still use the workflow from main and test_macos will fail here until it is merged. I ran the workflow from this branch with workflow_dispatch instead: run 39555792602. All three jobs pass, including both tests above, and test_macos takes about 17 minutes, the same as the last green run on main.

After this is merged, open PRs need a new push or a close and reopen to pick up the new workflow.

Type of Change

  • ✨ feat -- New feature (non-breaking change which adds functionality)
  • 🛠️ fix -- Bug fix (non-breaking change which fixes an issue)
  • ❌ ! -- Breaking change (fix or feature that would cause existing functionality to change)
  • 🧹 refactor -- Code refactor
  • ✅ ci -- Build configuration change
  • 📝 docs -- Documentation
  • 🗑️ chore -- Chore

The two `upload-crashlytics-symbols` tests in `configure_test.dart`
build an iOS app with `firebase_crashlytics`, which now resolves to
6.0.0. It depends on firebase-ios-sdk 13.0.0, whose `Package.swift`
declares `swift-tools-version:6.2.1`, so Swift Package Manager fails to
resolve it with Xcode 16.4 (Swift 6.1):

  'firebase-ios-sdk' >= 13.0.0 contains incompatible tools version
  (6.2.1) and 'firebase_crashlytics-6.0.0' depends on
  'firebase-ios-sdk' 13.0.0.

Xcode 26.3 is the newest Xcode on the macos-15 runner image.
