Summary

  • Publish the checked Astro/Starlight docs artifact to GitHub Pages on main changes to docs/**, openapi.yaml, or this workflow. PRs keep read-only build checks.
  • Generate and verify static redirect pages for all 44 live Stainless API URLs, including resource landings, the retry operation, and the TypeScript SDK page.
  • Keep the captured live route inventory separate from the redirect map, so CI detects any missing destination.
  • Document the preview, cutover, and rollback sequence. The live DNS remains on Stainless.

Verification

  • pnpm check — passed (0 errors, warnings, hints)
  • pnpm build — passed (60 pages plus 44 redirect pages; docs/dist 7.9 MB)
  • pnpm check:links — passed (2,628 internal references across 104 HTML pages)
  • pnpm check:redirects — passed (44 routes and destinations)
  • actionlint .github/workflows/docs-build.yml — passed
  • All 44 inventory paths returned HTTP 200 from the live Stainless site before cutover.
  • Local preview: home, API operation, legacy route, and sitemap served; legacy route returned an HTML refresh to the new operation URL.

Activation and release

  1. A repository admin enables GitHub Pages with GitHub Actions as source and sets hub-docs-preview.formbricks.com as the custom domain. Pages is currently disabled; this PR is draft until that is arranged.
  2. Merge this PR, then merge infra#273 after confirming the Pages domain setting. Review the preview over HTTPS, including search and old API links.
  3. Prepare a separate infra PR to move hub.formbricks.com from customers.stldocs.app to formbricks.github.io. Verify the live domain and certificate before closing ENG-2370.

GitHub Pages serves the legacy URLs via Astro HTML refresh pages, not HTTP 301. The existing build-time PostHog key remains unset in CI; ENG-2426 covers analytics configuration.

Raw Markdown mirrors at /index.md and /quickstart/index.md are deferred to ENG-2530. A fresh check found /api/index.md already returns 404 on Stainless.

Refs ENG-2370.

Walkthrough

The docs site now maps legacy API paths to operation paths and checks the generated refresh pages. The workflow runs on selected pull requests and main pushes, supports manual dispatch, and deploys the checked docs artifact to GitHub Pages on non-PR main runs. The README adds commands and deployment instructions.

Priority: Normal

Merge Risk: Low · up to e622e

Docs deployment is largely sound. A pull request from a branch named pages could cancel a running Pages deployment, which is easy to fix by keying PR concurrency on the PR number. Before enabling Pages, confirm the github-pages environment restricts deployments to main.

Verdict: requesting changes — the workflow and build are sound, the redirect inventory is not complete.

Reviewed head e622e5c against main (2c28978). Verified locally: pnpm install --frozen-lockfile, pnpm check (0/0/0), pnpm build (59 pages + 31 redirect pages, 7.8 MB), pnpm check:links (2,572 refs / 90 pages), pnpm check:redirects (31), actionlint v1.7.12 — all pass. Served dist/ statically and exercised the homepage, /api/, an operation page, a legacy route (meta refresh with a relative target), /sitemap-index.xml, Pagefind, .nojekyll and 404.html.

[P1] docs/legacy-redirects.json misses 13 URLs the live site serves today

The summary says "all 31 Stainless API deep links". Enumerated against hub.formbricks.com while it still serves Stainless (x-stainless-deployed-version header): 31 method pages, 12 resource/subresource landing pages, plus /api/typescript. The manifest holds 30 methods and one landing (/api/resources/webhooks), so all of these 200 today and would 404 after cutover:

Legacy route (live 200) Suggested target
/api/resources/enrichment_status /api/operations/tags/enrichment-status/
/api/resources/feedback_records /api/operations/tags/feedback-records/
/api/resources/feedback_records/subresources/search /api/operations/tags/feedback-records/
/api/resources/health /api/operations/tags/health/
/api/resources/taxonomy /api/operations/tags/taxonomy/
/api/resources/taxonomy/subresources/nodes /api/operations/tags/taxonomy/
/api/resources/taxonomy/subresources/runs /api/operations/tags/taxonomy/
/api/resources/taxonomy/subresources/runs/subresources/active /api/operations/tags/taxonomy/
/api/resources/tenants /api/operations/tags/tenant-data/
/api/resources/tenants/subresources/enrichments /api/operations/tags/enrichment-status/
/api/resources/tenants/subresources/settings /api/operations/tags/tenant-settings/
/api/resources/tenants/subresources/enrichments/methods/retry /api/operations/retry-tenant-enrichments/
/api/typescript no successor page — decision needed

These are navigable today, not just bookmarks: every method page breadcrumbs to its resource landing (href="/api/resources/feedback_records" appears on /api/resources/feedback_records/methods/list), and enrichments/methods/retry is a sidebar entry. The retry destination already exists in the build at /api/operations/retry-tenant-enrichments/.

Why the check doesn't catch it: check-legacy-redirects.mjs validates the manifest against itself, and entries.length < 31 (line 11) hardcodes the incomplete count as "the 31 known Stainless routes". Suggest committing the legacy inventory as the source of truth and having the check assert the manifest covers every entry, so the number can't drift below the real set.

Notes

  • /api/typescript has no successor page: there is no TypeScript SDK page in docs/src or the build. If it should point at sdks/typescript, the destination regex in check-legacy-redirects.mjs (operations paths only) needs relaxing.
  • Stainless serves markdown mirrors (/index.md, /quickstart/index.md, /api/index.md); these will 404 after cutover. Worth an explicit decision.
  • The description says the PR stays draft until Pages is arranged; it is currently ready for review. Merging before the Pages source is set to GitHub Actions makes the first main push fail the deploy step.
  • docs/README.md:54 asks for "representative" legacy paths to be checked. Once the manifest is complete, the check can cover all of them.
  • CodeRabbit's concurrency-group comment on .github/workflows/docs-build.yml:25 is valid but minor; the fix is answered in that thread.

Security pass: no concerns. Both new actions are first-party and SHA-pinned (v4.0.0 and v4.0.5 verified against their tags); pages: write and id-token: write are scoped to the deploy job and gated to refs/heads/main; the PR build keeps read-only permissions and persist-credentials: false; the artifact carries no secrets or credentials.

Re-reviewed at a529653 — both items from my request for changes are addressed.

Redirect coverage. legacy-stainless-routes.json now matches the live Stainless inventory exactly: 44 routes (31 operations, 12 resource/subresource landings, /api/typescript). I diffed it against an independent enumeration taken from hub.formbricks.com: no gaps, no extras. All 44 build as redirect pages, every destination exists in dist, and none of them chains to another redirect.

The guard binds now. Mutation-tested: deleting a redirect fails with Missing redirect for /api/typescript, adding an uninventoried one fails with Uninventoried redirect: …, restoring passes. The old entries.length < 31 floor is gone — that floor is what let the gap through the first time.

TypeScript SDK page. Matches the client: @formbricks/hub is published (0.14.1), createHubClient is exported from sdks/typescript/src/index.ts, the engines bound is Node 22, and the sample matches the SDK README. /api/typescript redirects to it and it is in the sitemap.

Concurrency. format('pr-{0}', github.event.pull_request.number) applied as discussed in the CodeRabbit thread.

Verified on this head: pnpm check (0 errors/warnings/hints), pnpm build (60 pages + 44 redirect pages, 7.9 MB), pnpm check:links (2,628 references across 104 pages), pnpm check:redirects (44), actionlint clean, and a static serve of dist exercising the homepage, /api/, an operation page, redirect pages, the sitemap and Pagefind. The README's new claims about /index.md, /quickstart/index.md and /api/index.md match the live host.

Security pass is clean: both new actions are first-party and SHA-pinned (v4.0.0 and v4.0.5 verified against their tags), pages: write and id-token: write are confined to the deploy job and gated to refs/heads/main, and the PR build keeps read-only permissions with persist-credentials: false.

Precondition unchanged from the description: the Pages source must be GitHub Actions with the preview custom domain set before this merges, otherwise the first main push fails its deploy step. One nit, no action required here: legacy-stainless-routes.json reads as a frozen snapshot but now acts as a two-way allowlist, so a future non-Stainless redirect will fail the check with "Uninventoried redirect".
